Troxler crowed as Queen Sugar LXVII

Chelsea Lee Troxler, the 19-year-old daughter of Charlotte and Lee Troxler of Luling captured the coveted title of Queen Sugar LXVII on Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival Pageant in New Iberia.

She is a 2007 honor graduate of Hahnville High School and a sophomore at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, majoring in accounting.

Chelsea says that her ultimate goal is to obtain an accounting degree and a certified public accountant license and work for a large accounting firm as a forensic accountant. She is also a nationally award-winning dancer and top model.

Competing amongst seven other contestants representing the sugar producing parishes of Louisiana, Troxler wowed the judges with the perfect combination of personality, knowledge of the industry, and radiating beauty.

In spite of a bout with the stomach flu then losing her voice, Chelsea persevered throughout the weekend determined to perform to the best of her ability.

As Queen Sugar, she will travel throughout the state representing one of the oldest festivals and the sugar industry.

Chelsea will also attend the Washington, D.C. Mardi Gras Ball in 2009.

Others receiving awards were – 1st Alternate and Miss Congeniality – St. James Parish; Casie Speaks, 2nd Alternate – Assumption Parish; Jane Landry, and Miss Personality – Iberville Parish; Lauren Kessler. Miss Aimee Latour of St. Rose, attended as St. Charles Parish Sweet and Doreen Becnel Landry and Walter Becnel represented as the duchess and duke of St. Charles Parish.

Latour will now be crowned as Miss St. Charles Parish Festival Queen L and will assume the title and duties of queen. She will also compete at the Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals Queen of Queens pageant in February of 2009.

After winning the title, Queen Sugar Chelsea was immediately presented and joined by Wilson Leblanc, Sr., King Sucrose LXVII.

The two reigned over the Coronation Ball celebrating the new Queen Sugar and her court.

On Sunday, the pair was honored at a breakfast, attended mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, lunched with other dignitaries, then culminated their day by riding in the Main Street parade, rolling in their honor.

Doreen Becnel Landry, director of the St. Charles Parish Festival was elated with joy.

“Oh my God, I just had this feeling! We knew Chelsea was quite capable of capturing this title and we are just so happy for her.

It is a bittersweet victory. Chelsea was just crowned our 50th anniversary queen. It will be so difficult to give her up as our queen, but she is so deserving of the title of Queen Sugar, the sweetest of the sweet. We are extremely proud of her.”

No stranger to New Iberia, Chelsea previously attended the festival when she reigned as Miss St. Charles Parish Teen Queen VIII in 2003.

St. Charles Parish has held the title of Queen Sugar three previous times in the history of the Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival – Parish Queen Miss Sandra LeBlanc in 1968, Parish Queen Ashlyn Falgout in 2004 and Parish Representative Sarah Owens in 2006.
