Summer drive-in movies set for July 30 at the Lafon Center

The Lafon Performing Arts Center will serve up two family movie classics July 30 when it hosts the latest installment of its drive-in movie offerings.

Lafon Drive-In July will start at 7 p.m. and feature the movies Madagascar and Jurassic Park. The arts center is located at 275 Judge E. Dufresne Pkwy. in Luling.

“We are so excited to welcome everyone back to the center and start their season of creating memories with our first of three drive-in movie events,” Chris Aucoin-Melohn, director of the Lafon Center, said. “These family-friendly drive-ins have been a lasting hit since we began them two years ago. What a better way to spend the end of the summer than with your loved ones under the stars watching two fantastic movies.”

The night will kick off with Madagascar, which carries a PG rating. The movie is a 2005 computer-animated comedy film produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by DreamWorks Pictures that centers around a group of animals from the Central Park Zoo who find themselves stranded on the island of Madagascar.

After a brief intermission, Jurassic Park will be played.

Jurassic Park, rated PG-13, is a 1993 American science fiction action film directed by Steven Spielberg. It is the first installment in the Jurassic Park franchise and is based on the 1990 novel of the same name by Michael Crichton.

The film is set on the fictional island of Isla Nublar, where wealthy businessman John Hammond and a team of genetic scientists have created a wildlife park of de-extinct dinosaurs. When industrial sabotage leads to a catastrophic shutdown of the park’s power facilities and security precautions, a small group of visitors and Hammond’s grandchildren struggle to survive and escape the perilous island.

Entry tickets are $30 per vehicle and must be pre-purchased, as no tickets will be sold at the box office. The box office will open at 4 p.m. to begin scanning tickets.

Organizers said tickets can be printed or scanned from a phone, and that they are non-refundable and non-transferable.  Movie goers are allowed to sit on chairs directly in front of and within the width of their vehicle, and they will have access to the parking spot next to their vehicle as well.

No reentry is allowed at the event, and no outside food or beverages are permitted without a food permit. Food permits can be pre-purchased or bought at the box office upon arrival. Alcohol, glass bottles and smoking are not allowed at the event.

Subway sandwich boxes are the dinner option for the movies, and must be preordered and cannot be purchased at the event.

Tickets, as well as food packages and permits, are available for purchase at www.lafonartscenter.org or by calling 985-331-3670 during box office hours.
