Street new leader of LA school nurses

Tanya Street R.N., of St. Charles Parish Schools, was recently installed as the president of the Louisiana School Nurses Organization.

She was officially named president during a conference in Baton Rouge on April 13.

Street has been a nurse for 31 years and has worked as a school nurse for nine years, since her daughter started school.

“I love working with children,” Street said.

Street was named president-elect during last year’s conference and has spent the last 12 months being mentored by the previous president.

She said her main duties as president will be to keep a watch for anthing that affects school nursing in general to make it better for children.

She is excited that the state conference will be held in St. Charles Parish next year for the first time. Her and other area school nurses have already begun planning.

“It will give us a chance to showcase how wonderful our school system is and how wonderful our new professional learning center is,” she said.
