St. Charles Parish Public Schools performance maintained an “A” for the 2015-16 school year, again ranking among Louisiana’s top performing school systems.
With a district score of 109.3, the system is up 5.4 points over the previous year’s score, according to the Louisiana Department of Education’s annual district and school performance report.
Overall, the school system ranked with the state’s highest performers in Zachary, Central and Livingston parishes.Ten of the school system’s 15 schools earned an “A” rating, according to the report.
Three system schools also showed improvement with R.K. Smith Middle School improving from a “C” to a “B” and Destrehan High School jumping to an “A” ranking with a performance score of 100.4. Luling Elementary maintained a “C” rating but was only 9/10ths of a point away from being a “B” school.
“The type of success that is experienced across all schools is not by chance,” said Superintendent Felecia Gomez-Walker. “Through years of preparation and intentional execution of best practices by administrators, teachers and central office staff, we have challenged ourselves to be among the best in the state.
“Our primary focus is preparing our students for college, careers and life, and I am extremely proud of these results that indicate our students are equipped with the knowledge and skills to be successful.”
School performance scores are based on several factors for elementary and middle schools, including students LEAP scores. High school performance scores are determined by graduation rate, test grades, performance on end-of-course exams and on the ACT.
Gomez-Walker added, “The continuous improvement that St. Charles Parish Public Schools has shown over the years is a testament to our administrators, teachers and students who continue to work hard and perform at high levels through challenging times. Without the leadership of the School Board, the dedication and commitment from school system employees, students’ determination to meet more rigorous standards, and community support, these outstanding results would not have been possible.”
