St. Charles Parish public schools far outperformed Louisiana averages on the recent Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) mathematics test.
Parish schools ranked between first and fifth statewide in the percentage of students scoring “mastery and above” on the tests and outperformed the state average of between 11 and 19 percentage points, depending on the grade, in the results released this month.
St. Charles Parish also outpaced the statewide average of 12 and 22 points in the percentage of students scoring basic and above on the PARCC math tests.
“We are very excited about out students’ scores and attribute those to the focused instruction provided by our teachers and the ongoing support that we received from Great Minds throughout the 2014-15 school year,” said Rachel J. Allemand, the school system’s assistant superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment.
Allemand added they are seeing great progress in their students’ mathematical reasoning and fluency skills.
“Eureka Math is a challenging program, but our students will need those skills to be prepared for high wage, high demand jobs in the future.”
The school district has more than 9,800 students, 52 percent of whom are considered low income (free or reduced lunches).Nationally, 5 million students in 11 states and the District of Columbia took the PARCC test in spring of 2015. in 2009.
