St. Charles Parish Hospital hosts school-to-career internships

Three teacher interns recently went through the school-to-career program at St. Charles Parish Hospital.

Participants for this year’s program were Pat Chevalier from Hahnville High School, Stephanie Ward from Destrehan High School and Denise Robichaux from the Satellite Center.

The unique two-day program offers local educators an opportunity to get a better understanding of the healthcare environment.

Among the subjects covered were various careers students may be interested in pursuing, as well as the schooling required, areas of academic strength needed for particular fields of study, salary ranges and the daily demands of various jobs.

The first-hand experience participants gained enables them to return to their classrooms and better educate students about particular jobs in the healthcare field, as well as enhance the material being taught in their classes with an application to healthcare related professions.

The program began with a brief orientation followed by an informative tour of the hospital. On the second day of the internship, the teachers were able to interact closely with the different departments.

The program is a collaboration between St. Charles Parish Hospital and St. Charles Parish Public Schools.
