Sci-fi movie films at Spillway

Based on novel by ‘Twilight’ author

Filming for alien-invasion movie “The Host” shut down Spillway Road, which connects Norco and Montz, for two days this week.

The movie is based on a novel by Stephanie Meyer, who rose to fame by writing the “Twilight” series. In the novel, Earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of human hosts while leaving their bodies intact. Wanderer, an invading “soul” who has been given the body of Melanie, didn’t expect to find its former tenant refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

As Melanie fills Wanderer’s thoughts with visions of Jared, a human who still lives in hiding, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she’s never met. Reluctant allies, Wanderer and Melanie set off to search for the man they both love.

Saioirse Ronan, who starred as the murdered Susie Salmon in the movie “The Lovely Bones,” will play Melanie. “The Host” also stars William Hurt and Diane Kruger.

The movie is set to be released on March 29, 2013.
