St. Charles kids are adding their own special mix to this weekend’s Mardi Gras festivities.
Multiple schools across the parish will throw their own parades on Friday to get students and the entire school community ready for the holiday next week.
At Mimosa Park Elementary, 2nd grade students will march at 10 a.m. Each year, the class chooses a theme around the pelican mascot, Percy. This year’s theme is “Movies from the last 50 years” and the students will throw special commemorative 50th anniversary beads.
Luling Elementary kindergarten students will parade with the Krewe of Lula, named in honor of the school’s mascot. The parade will take place at 1:30 p.m. on the school grounds.
The Krewe of Kritters at St. Chares Borromeo School in Destrehan will parade behind the campus at 1:30 p.m.
New Sarpy Elementary kindergarteners will roll their parade in the school’s parking lot at 2:30 p.m..
First-grade students at Allemands Elementary will parade around the school’s bus circle at 2 p.m.
Sacred Heart of Jesus School in Norco will have Mardi Gras-themed students parading around the school parking lot at 10 a.m.
Lakewood Elementary 4th, 5th and 6th graders will roll at 1 p.m. down the school’s normal route: down Lakewood Drive to Mimosa Park.
R.J. Vial Elementary students will make a bigger loop, leaving campus at 1 p.m. to walk down Eula Street, take a right on Louisiana Street, swing a left at Market Street, take another right at South Street and end at the J.B. Martin Middle parking lot.
