Red, white and blue Mimosa kids pay tribute to America

Some 32 Mimosa Park Elementary students became drama club members for two weeks in June and sang a tribute to America with songs honoring our country on flag day. The four renditions were: “You’re a Grand Old Flag, American Tears, God Bless America and Let’s Keep America Great.” This was the second act of the Excerpts from Annie program performed in the Mimosa Park Elementary school to a packed auditorium.

Mimosa Principal Michele de Bruler had the idea of wanting her Mimosa students to have drama experience during the summertime and asked music teacher Harriette Parrish to coach the youngsters. Music teacher Chesley Simoneaux worked with Parrish on putting the professionally executed program together. It was funded by Shell Oil, Mimosa Park School’s partner in education and the St. Charles Parish School system so it was free to the youngsters ending 2nd and ending 3rd grades.

Speakers for “A Tribute to America” were: Olivia Joanos, Madeline Mayeux, Madison Canterbury, Gabrielle Constant, Elise Fahrig, Emily Sampognaro, and Kaylee Parker. American Tears soloists were: Logan Tauzin, Savannah Whitney, Randi Holmes, Heather Matthews, Kenyelle Harris, Myah Hall, Tori Gomez and Danielle Templet. “God Bless America” speaker was: Katherine Jorgenson. Soloists were Samantha O’Neil, Madison Canterbury, Logan Tauzin and Caroline Abadie.”Let’s Keep America Great.”
