HHS grad heads to international festival as top male vocalist in Louisiana

Adam Vedros, a 2022 Hahnville High School graduate, will be representing his high school thespian troupe at the International Thespian Festival this summer as the top male vocalist in the state.

Vedros will head to Indiana University June 20-24 for the festival, which is heralded as the country’s premier teen theatre experience. There he will have opportunities to grow his knowledge with interactive workshops, experience performances, showcase his talents and expand his theatre family.

Students had to earn a superior rating on their Thespy performance at state level to qualify for the international festival.

“Adam is an extraordinary human,” Lucas Harms, a theatre teacher at HHS, said. “He has a boundless capacity for kindness. He practices empathy in every situation. And then add an incredible amount of artistic talent to that and you get an amazing young man … which is exactly what Adam is … amazing.”

Vedros has starred in several theatre productions at HHS, as well as one at Rivertown. At HHS he was a member of the band and served as brass captain for two years. He recently graduated summa cum laude from HHS.

He said he set the goal to get a bid to attend the international festival this year. It’s something he achieved last year, but because of the pandemic the international festival was virtual.

“I’m really excited, but a little nervous because there will be a lot more talent there,” he said of the June festival.

He said he wasn’t expecting to score as high as he did at the state level this year.

“But it was great,” he said. “It definitely made me feel really great, especially considering that the last few years nothing has happened because of the pandemic. But I kept trying to work on my music and getting better so it was an ego booster and self-esteem booster to do so well this year.”

Vedros will start his college career at Louisiana State University this fall and will be trying out for the drum line and a trumpet position for the Golden Band from Tigerland. He plans to study psychology.
