Parent Teacher Tech Night at St. Charles Parish Library

The St. Charles Parish Library and St. Charles Parish Public Schools are partnering to present Parent Teacher Tech Night, an event that to highlight the best free online resources for middle and high school students, on Tuesday (Sept. 26) at 6 p.m. at the East Regional Library, 160 W. Campus Dr. in Destrehan.

Presentations and hands-on demonstrations by school and public librarians will help parents feel more confident using technology to assist their children with homework and research assignments. Attendees will also learn how to use the library’s free apps to download eBooks, music, videos, and magazines for their own enjoyment.

Teen Services Librarian Amy Duke said Parent Teacher Tech Night will show parents and teachers free online research and homework tools provided by the St. Charles Parish Library that are available to all parish residents. St. Charles Parish Public School Librarians Laurie Bartley and Kathleen Guinnane will discuss the online databases that are available to students who attend St. Charles Parish Public Schools.

“Both the public library and school system have many ad-free online resources that are designed for students and aligned with Common Core standards,” Duke said. “We want to show how engaging and easy-to-use these eBooks and databases are, as well as to alleviate anxiety about using them.”

Participants are encouraged to bring their own device and library card for hands-on assistance. Attendees will be able to register for a card at the event. St. Charles Parish Library cards are free for everyone who lives, works, goes to school, or owns property in St. Charles Parish.

All St. Charles Parish Library events are open to the public and free of charge. For more information, contact Amy Duke at (985) 764-2366 or amy.boling@myscpl.org.
