Norco Elementary’s camp for young inventors teaches science-literacy, teamwork, and creativity

Norco Elementary School held its young inventors camp on June 25 through the 29 and 44 students got an opportunity to bring their creative ideas to life.

Through a grant from Shell Chemical, totaling $11,375, the camp was offered to students interested in becoming inventors.

The students followed the Explore program in which participants invented a method of futuristic travel in Wild Blue Y’Under, one of activities.

Students also learned engineering principals to build communications command centers in the Tape Me To Your Leader activity, and investigate a make-believe crime scene in Solve It: The Missing Inventor’s Log.

In the I Can Invent/Take Apart™ class students took apart discarded household appliances and created new inventions, while learning about the patenting process.

They also participated in AMAZing Games™ in which they used their higher order thinking skills to develop effective strategies to solve problems while building teamwork.

Children were challenged with hands-on activities that foster creativity, teamwork, science literacy and inventive-thinking skills when they participate in the Camp Invention program, created by the National Inventors Hall of Fame Foundation with support from the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The top priority of the Camp Invention program is to provide quality enrichment activities for children entering third through sixth grades. An inquiry-based program offered to your local school district, participants’ understanding of science, math, history and the arts is enhanced as they participate daily in five activity-oriented thematic modules.
