Luling senior helped LSMSA exceed its fundraising goal

Lerroy Mwaghore, a senior from Luling, was among volunteers who helped the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts Foundation exceeded its fundraising goal at its seventh annual Phonathon held Jan. 25-28.

The goal was $75,000, but the Foundation raised more than $85,000.

“The phonathon is the Foundation’s largest fundraiser each year and provides us with critical funds needed to support our students, faculty and staff,” said Katja Thomakos, executive director of the LSMSA Foundation.

Funds from the phonathon are used toward the Foundation’s annual fund, which provides support to LSMSA for items such as new scientific equipment, Boe-Bot robots, piano tuning and musical scores, graphing calculators and much, much more.

Over the four-night period, 50 student volunteers helped call more than 3,000 members of the LSMSA community, including alumni, parents and grandparents.
