At the library’s Big Kid Storytime on Saturday, April 19, kids will get to hold and pet reptiles, including snakes and other wildlife.
From 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the Reptile Krewe – Animal Encounters, will introduce kids to various reptiles at the East Regional Library.
Lauren Campo-Pitz, the assistant director at the library, said she’s looking forward to seeing all the animals.
“We also hope that the attendees will get a chance to get to know some animals that they have not seen before, and maybe even get a little more comfortable with animals that they might be a little fearful of—like snakes,” she said.
She said she expects about 30 to 50 people to attend the event, which will be held in the large meeting room.
Reptile Krewe is owned by Barry Guillot, who runs Swamp School with fellow educator Craig Howat.
“While the Reptile Krewe has not visited the library before, Barry Guillot and the Wetland Watchers visited the library with animals a few times as a part of some of our bigger library events,” Pitz said.
Pitz said Big Kid Storytime, a monthly program, is geared toward children ages 5 and up who are a bit too old for the library’s weekday morning story times, but who still enjoy a good story time. The program includes more advanced books and something a little different—like special guests such as the Reptile Krewe.
“Visitors to the story time can expect a typical Big Kid Storytime with the addition of reptiles,” she said.
