May 7 was Lemonade Day in South Louisiana, a program that encouraged children to setup a lemonade stand to learn the basic principles of business.
The program encouraged children to donate their profits to a charity.
Xander Savage, a 1st grade student at Mimosa Park Elementary, took the opportunity to combine Lemonade Day with his class’s lesson in community service to raise money for the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to help the victims of the 2011 tornado outbreak.
Xander sold five gallons of homemade lemonade and 100 cookies raising $570.25 in sales and donations for the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
Xander proudly delivered his $570.25 donation to his teacher to be combined with his classmates’ donations for submission to the Red Cross.
