Four-year-old Joshua Mongrue is pictured on Bayou Gauche Island last Friday watching as the island’s only road gets flooded by Hurricane Ike’s surge.
Joshua’s mom Kimberly says that she caught the image of her son’s inquisitive expression in when she was snapping photos of the now-underwater island.
Kimberly points out that the photo depicts the early stages of the flooding. By Saturday evening, the water was at the doorsteps of most resident’s homes.
“He (Joshua) was so amazed that the road was under water, but also was concerned as to why,” said Kimberly. “I thought his interest was unique and sad at the same time, because we are dealt these hurricanes all too often.”
