Holy Family Extravaganza a great success

Holy Family Catholic Church on Lakewood Drive has an Extravaganza once a year as its special fundraiser. Instead of a parish fair, volunteers get together and put on a one night benefit that ensures one of the ticket holders to get $10,000 and others to share in smaller pots. In addition there were games with a television set and ipods as prizes and lots more raffle drawing and teacup auction items.

Food and dancing were highlights of the “Back to the Prom” themed event with wonderful band music presented by LO2.

Joseph and Peggy Howes of Luling actually went to prom together at Ponchatoula High School in 1949.

Attendees were invited to wear what they remembered wearing on their prom nights. Susan Hymel dug up her original prom dress from 1982 and wore it complete with wrist corsage. Merlin and Susan both graduated in 1982; Susan from Higgins High in Marrero and Merlin from Riverside Academy in Reserve. As a side note…Susan had cleaned out closets and donated her prom dress to Cajun Village Thrift Shop. After learning that she should wear a prom dress to the Extravaganza she went back to the shop and thankfully it hadn’t been sold and she bought it back.

Dennis Tauzin who was a key person in planning and executing the Extravaganza ended up singing with the band at the end of the night.
