German Coast Farmer’s Market annual Spring Plant Exchange

The German Coast Farmer’s Market will hold its annual Spring Plant Exchange.

The east bank plant exchange will be held May 2. The west bank market will be held May 13.

Participants should arrive by 10 a.m. on May 2 with the exchange at 10:30 a.m.  and on Wednesday afternoon May 13 at 3 p.m. with the exchange to take place at 3:30 p.m.

A prize will be offered to the person who brings the most unusual or rare Southern plant or “the ones our grandparents had in their yards which we loved and do not often see at garden centers,” said market spokeswoman Marilyn Richoux.

All well-established plants in half gallon or larger containers will be welcome.  Botanical and popular names of plant (if known) and care instructions should be provided.Richoux said sharing cuttings has also become very popular.

The German Coast Farmers’ Markets are open Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. until noon at Ormond Plantation on River Road in Destrehan and on Wednesday afternoons from 2:30 until 6 p.m. at the St. Charles Plaza Shopping Center on Highway 90 in Luling.
