Free school supplies, health information, educational aids, nutrition tips and child fingerprinting are just a few of the services that are headlining this year’s “School Days Project 2.” The educational resource fair is set to take place Saturday, Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Charles Community Health Center located at 843 Milling Ave. in Luling.
“The event is open to any St. Charles Parish resident with children,” said Venessa Simmons, representative for LaCHIP. “There will be several local agencies on hand to educate parents on what resources are available to them in addition to free supplies for school-aged children.”Simmons stresses that all parents must be accompanied by their children in order to qualify for the supplies.
“If a parent has three children, then all three children need to be present with the parent,” said Simmons. “We will only give out supplies to the children that are in attendance with their parents.”
Basic school supplies that will available are notebooks, crayons, pencils, ink pens, loose-leaf paper, glue and glue sticks, highlighters and folders – just to name a few.
Simmons also says that health programs, educational aids, nutrition tips and fingerprinting will also be available.
Surprise giveaways, including a free laptop computer, and free food and drinks are also on tap.
