Communities rally to support Cottages for CASA

Cottages for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is kicking off its playhouse fundraiser raffle that generates public awareness and funding to support CASA’s work in a 10-parish region.

Two custom designed, unique playhouses were built this year. One playhouse, the Train Depot, was designed by the architectural design firm Holly & Smith of Hammond.

It was built through partnerships with Farm Bureau Insurance, Alack Culinary Equipment and Supplies Superstore, and Amar Oil Co.  Supplies for the playhouse were donated by Gabriel Building Supply and will be on display at Hammond Square. The second playhouse, designed by Scairono and Martinez Architects of New Orleans, will be called Decked Out and built by McLin Construction with supplies provided by Stine Lumber. It can be seen at Stine Lumber in Walker.

Community members can still get involved by buying or selling raffle tickets for the upcoming drawing.

“All children deserve a safe and permanent home. Anyone can help us provide a voice for children in our community.  We appreciate the support of community volunteers and financial contributions of local business owners and individuals. This project would be impossible without their involvement,” said Ginger Cangelosi, Community Outreach Director for CAS.

The drawing will be for a chance to win one of three prizes:  The Train Depot Playhouse, The Decked Out Playhouse or a seven-night stay at any Wyndham Resort.

Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased by calling Ginger Cangelosi at (800) 798-1575 or online at www.childadv.net.  The raffle is set for Nov. 18 at Stine Lumber in Walker at 10 a.m.  The public is invited to attend.

Cottages for CASA generates public awareness and funding for Child Advocacy Services to provide services through our mission to give voice, healing, and security to children. CASA provides assistance to children and families in ten parishes, including Ascension, Assumption, East and West Feliciana, Livingston, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. James, St. John and Tangipahoa.

Training to become a CAS is ongoing. For more information, call 800-798-1575.

CASA is a partner of United Way of St. Charles.

Through partnerships with Child Advocacy Services and CASA, business owners, community members and individuals have given time and money that is helping more than 4,700 children in foster care.

CASA is made up of community volunteers trained to advocate for children as they navigate their way through complex social services and juvenile court systems. In 2014, the CASA Program served 476 children with 238 volunteers speaking out for children in 10 parishes. As a result, 152 of those children were placed in safe, permanent homes. However, there are still more than 130 local children waiting for CASA.
