Come In and Cover Me by Gin Phillips tells the tale of Ren’s journey as she fights to uncover the secrets found in her archaeological career in her latest fiction novel.
It all started with the fatal car crash her brother Scott was involved in when she was only twelve years old. Now thirty-seven, she travels the country searching for artifacts from an infamous Mimbres woman, who seems to be trying to help Ren discover something about herself. A relationship with her fellow archaelogist is also developing, causing the ghosts to insert their own views as well. But how can Ren learn to let go of the past so that she can continue moving towards the future?
Come In and Cover Me was a decent novel. Though not what I had originally expected, the journey forced me to feel what Ren felt as she faced insane obstacles. Not for beginning readers, I would give Phillip’s novel four out of five stars.
