“Church Ladies” shed 101 pounds to win $3,000 in Biggest Loser

Twenty-two teams competed in the Fitness Club’s “Biggest Loser” competition. In all, the teams’ lost a total of 818.3 pounds in only eight weeks. The winners were determined by using a formula based on the individual’s weight loss at the end of the competition being divided by the original weigh-in figure.

“The Church Ladies” lost the most and won the competition and the $3,000 grand prize. Team members Marylou Sumrall, Ellen Church, Dana Folse, Lori Flores and Amanda Morales lost a whopping total of 101 pounds and beat stiff competition with an average percentage weight loss of 10.49 percent.

Second place went to “Mike Dunn’s Team.” Mike Dunn, Yvette Dunn, Tim Candies, Kim Candies and Amie Krupple lost 107.8 pounds total and had an average loss of 9.83 percent.
The third-place team was “5-Non Blondes,” which included Patricia Folse, Rachel Burns, Rebecca Larouse, Tara Simar and Tiffany Breaux. They lost 74 pounds for an average of 8.57 percent.

Individually, John Detillier lost the most weight, shedding 30 pounds for an 18.99 percent loss. Sumrall lost 35 pounds and had a decrease of 15.09 percent, while Tim Candies, who lost 34.8 pounds, had a net weight decrease of 12.94 percent. He finished third.

“We do plan on doing biggest loser again – it was a great success and I was so excited for all of our teams,” Leah Woolf, of the Fitness Club, said. “I cannot believe that everyone lost so much weight!”
