In Jim Butcher’s “Storm Front,” it is up to Harry Dresden, the only openly-practicing wizard in the Yellow Pages, to put a stop to the things that go bump in the night.
In this first book of the Dresden Files, a couple is found dead in their apartment in a hideous display of blood and gore.
Clearly dealing with something out of her league, Lieutenant Murphy of the Chicago Police Department decides to hire Harry as a consultant to the bizarre murder.
Using his knowledge, connections and mystical resources, Harry struggles to uncover the truth and bring down the strange and mysterious killer.
When I say that this is the most amazing series I ever read, I mean I spent every second of free time for the next several days reading the next 10 books in the series and nine short stories, and I do not read often – it is that good.
The author wastes no time on pointless elaborate descriptions of anything unrelated to the current plot.
The unfaltering sarcasm, crude, yet tactical violence, illicit sexuality, and stark realism in a fictitious world are common and highly appreciated elements in the stories.
Just when you think nothing could possibly get worse, and the moment you expect something to jump in to save the day, something does jump it—to make everything worse!
It then becomes exponentially worse until just before the conflict is resolved in nearly every book.
Jim Butcher is an amazing, five-star author.
