Chris Cleave’s novel “Little Bee” tells the story in the two perspectives of a Nigerian teenager from a small village on the Atlantic shore of Nigeria, Little Bee, and a British journalist, Sarah. The story is about how these two women help each other throughout their distressed lives.
The lives of Little Bee and Sarah are entwined with each other through a tragedy: when Sarah risked her life to save Little Bee from terrorists in her village.
Now that Little Bee has escaped her village and is an illegal refugee in England, she comes to Sarah in need of help but soon realizes that Sarah needs help dealing with her husband’s suicide, stressful career, lingering affair and young child.
As their friendship builds, tough decisions about Little Bee’s future come to their direction and put a toll on their relationship.
I enjoyed reading “Little Bee” from the two perspectives of very interesting, different women and how their relationships grew enough to risk their lives for each other. I highly recommend this novel to mature readers.
