Kids get real-life farm experiences from Red Barn Farm Tour

Children from across St. Charles Parish converged on Monsanto Park on June 29 to play with real farm animals.

The Red Barn Farm Tour brought chickens, rabbits, pigs and more to the park for kids to play with and learn about.

“We’re trying to reintroduce children to a farm animal life,” Russell Roy said. “It’s a life-changing opportunity for these children to come here and touch a bunny or a chicken, and even to see eggs in the barn.

“It’s about an education. It’s about an opportunity. It’s a big gift of love from our farm.”

Roy, a Louisiana native,  has created this imaginative, entertaining, and educational project in order to provide every child a chance to see, hear, touch, learn about, and fall in love with the wonders of farm animals.

The tour is designed to help teach kids about animals and the lives they lead on a working farm. It features more than two dozen farm animals and exhibits, including a miniature horse, rabbits, a calf, pigs, kittens, goats, pigeons and several types of chicken, like the “electrocuted chicken.”

Kids got the opportunity to get up-close with these animals, and for many it was the first time they ever had.

Roy also makes sure that all of his farm animals are properly handled so that they socialize well with the children.
