Amanda Shaw to appear on Dec. 7

Fans of Amanda Shaw will be excited to know that the award-winning fiddle player, songwriter, singer and actress is involved in two big events in St. Charles Parish on Sunday, Dec. 7. As a long-time partner of the Wetland Watchers Service-Learning Project, Shaw will represent the project riding in the Norco Christmas Parade and then at the conclusion of the parade she will formally light the huge Christmas tree at the Capitol One Bank building on Apple Street.

Later that evening, Shaw and her band the Cute Guys will be providing entertainment at the Wetlands Reveillon, a fundraiser gala coordinated by students at the St. Charles Parish Satellite Center.

All funds raised from the event will go towards construction of nature trails at St. Charles Parish Wetland Watchers Park.

This festive event also includes plenty of seafood, silent auctions, drawings, and architect, John Campo is also set to publicly present the plans for a Wetland Watchers Park.

“I am so excited about being in the Norco Christmas Parade and being a part of the Wetlands Reveillon,” said Shaw. “Wetlands Watchers Park will give young people a place to learn about and get involved with wetlands restoration in an environment where they can actually see first-hand both the devastation that has happened and the progress we have begun to make.”

“Mr. Barry Guillot has also been an awesome force in wetlands education. Together they provide innovative ideas and share a contagious drive and passion for wetlands restoration with the students and the community,” she said.

“Everybody knows how talented Shaw is from hearing her music, seeing her on the stage, or seeing her on the screen,” said Guillot. “But beyond the talent is an incredible person. Amanda has been a partner with the Wetland Watchers since she was 12-years-old. Watching her grow up and seeing the choices she has made along the way makes me feel good that we have someone like her representing Louisiana on the national level.”

“Recently she donated her time to come out and play for all the volunteers we had building nature trails at Wetland Watcher Park on “National Make a Difference Day.” People do not realize how much of her time is given to charitable work,” added Guillot.

“As she has become more well known, she has remained very close to her family and kept her values intact. She is such a great role model for our young people.”

The annual Norco Christmas Parade will start at 2 p.m. Shaw will light the Norco Christmas tree located at the Capitol One Bank building on Apple Street following the parade.

The Satellite Center’s Wetland Watcher Park fundraiser, A Wetland Reveillon will be held at the Shriners Hall on Ormond Boulevard from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
