A couple of St. Charles girls were able to make their dreams come true last weekend when they were named Miss St. Charles Festival and Miss Teen St. Charles Festival.
The Miss winner was Victoria Lynn Pellerin of Montz. She is the daughter of Spellman and Donna Pellerin.
“I was very excited. I am still excited to this day,” Pellerin said. “It still hasn’t exactly hit me yet. I go home and wear my crown all around my house.”
Pellerin formerly served as the St. Charles Parish Farm Bureau Queen.
As a junior at Southeastern Louisiana University, the $500 scholarship Pellerin was awarded will go towards helping her achieve her goal of graduating from Southeastern with a nursing degree. After getting her degree, she hopes to work at Children’s Hospital. Pellerin was also awarded a $100 gift certificate to Rhinestone Runway and received a ring from Roussel’s Fine Gifts and Jewelry
Pellerin was escorted at the festival by Zoe Naquin and sponsored by C&D Plumbing LLC of Norco, of whom she said she owes a great debt of gratitude.
“(C&D Plumbing) is kind of like my little second family and they are very close with my parents so they are very supportive with everything I do,” Pellerin said. “Whenever I want to go do something they are always wanting to sponsor me. It has been a great pleasure to have them as my sponsor.”
As part of her duties Pellerin will travel the state representing St. Charles Parish, something she said she looks forward to.
“Lots of traveling and of course promoting our wonderful parish and going to different festivals around the state and just letting them know how wonderful St. Charles Parish is,” Pellerin said. “We are known as ‘the parish of plenty’ and many people want to know why we are known as ‘the parish of plenty’, but there is so much to offer and we have so much history in St. Charles Parish. We are rich in industry, history and culture and it’s amazing how much we have here in the parish.”
Pellerin said it was a longtime goal to become Miss St. Charles Festival.
“It was definitely a dream come true. Every little girl in St. Charles Parish grows up and looks at the St. Charles Queen and says ‘mom that is going to be me one day!’ and of course I did that growing up in St. Charles Parish,” Pellerin said. “It was amazing to actually conquer that title and have my dreams come true.”
Pellerin hopes to continue her success when she competes at the Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival next April.
“I am very excited. I can’t wait to see what this year has in store,” Pellerin said.
The first Miss runner-up was Mandy Elizabeth Dallimore of Norco. She is the daughter of Ronald and Debra Dallimore Jr. and a sophomore at Southeastern Louisiana University. She was escorted by her godchild Heidi Paliaro and sponsored by Campo Designs-Architects of Destrehan.
The second Miss runner-up was Taylor Christen Rebowe of Norco. She is the daughter of Rusty and Darla Rebowe and a graduate of the Aveda Institute. She was escorted by Grifyn Nicole Johnson and sponsored by Talon Security and Training.
The Teen winner was Ashlyn Gabrielle Hymel of Montz. She is the daughter of John and Shellie Hymel and a sophomore at Destrehan High School.
Hymel said the win was a surprise for her because it was her first beauty pageant.
“It’s just amazing. When they called my name I was in such shock because I waited for it for a long time and I felt like it was one the greatest accomplishments. I am really looking forward to it,” Hymel said. “I think it is going to be a fun and exciting year.”
Hymel said she was a bit overwhelmed upon hearing her name called.
“I was amazed and I couldn’t believe I had actually accomplished what I had been dreaming of,” Hymel said. “There was a lot of crying, tears of joy.”
As part of her honor, Hymel was awarded a $300 scholarship that she hopes to put towards her goal of one day becoming a veterinarian. Hymel also received a ring donated by Roussel’s, a piece of crystal and a crown.
She looks forward to her reign, especially the activities it will include.
“Traveling, representing our parish at fairs and festivals and meeting a bunch of different people,” Hymel said. “It is going to be a lot of fun.”
Hymel was escorted by Phoebe Bourgoyne and sponsored by Roussel’s Fine Jewelry and Gifts.
The first teen runner-up was Amanda Lauren Sweeney of Montz. She is the daughter of John and Michelle Sweeney and is a sophomore at Destrehan High School. She was escorted by Isabella Marie Loupe and sponsored by her family.
The second teen runner-up was Abby Renee Rochelle of Norco. She is the daughter of George and Carey Rochelle and a sophomore at Destrehan High School. She was escorted by Kayla Porche and Alyssa Porche and sponsored by St. Charles Parish District Attorney Joel T. Chaisson, II.
