St. Charles Parish Festival celebrates golden anniversary with the crowning of new queens

The 50th annual St. Charles Parish Festival crowned their winners in an evening ceremony at Destrehan High School on Saturday, Aug. 2 with Ariel Morris of Destrehan taking home the title of Teen Queen and Luling’s Chelsea Troxler crowed as Miss Queen. Ariel, a junior at Destrehan High School, is the daughter of Steven and Billie Morris. She was escorted by Sweetheart Escort Laila Andras.

Chelsea, a sophomore at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, is the daughter of Lee and Charlotte Troxler. She was escorted by Ashlyn Hymel, who is the sister of the 2007 Teen Queen Chelsey Hymel.

Other Teen division winners are: Lacyce Mizell – 2nd Runner Up, Jenna Mire – Most Photogenic, Raelyn Cavallo – Sweetness Award, Brooke McCray – 1st Runner Up and the Fashion Award, and Holly Ford – People’s Choice.

Miss division winners are: Aimee Latour – 1st Runner Up, Blythe Weber – 2nd Runner Up, Sweetheart Award and People’s Choice, Gina Granger – Most Photogenic, and Courtney Harper – the Fashion Award.

The evening began with an opening dance and introduction segment featuring the 2008 contestants followed by a greeting by director Doreen Becnel-Landry and the introduction of the Master and Mistress of Ceremonies, Walter Becnel and Amanda Sullivan.

The “Parish of Plenty” royalty included Bryleigh Sutherland, Kaitlyn Jacob, Lynleigh Landry, Julia Haslauer, Brianna Martinez, Laila Andras, Brianna Andras, Gina Granger and Paige St. Pierre.

Sweetheart escorts included: Brianna Andras, Laila Andras, Alyssa Breaux, Kamryn Diamond, Ella Faucheaux, Micah Freitas, Ashlyn Hymel, Karleigh Landry and Morgan Roussel.
