After working hard all year long, 4-H members were rewarded at the annual 4-H Achievement Day held at J. B. Martin Middle School in Paradis. St. Charles Parish 4-H members came together to celebrate the ending of the 2008-09 year. After the morning ceremony, 4-Hers scattered to participate in an array of contests and activities. Some dressed up and practiced setting a table for the good grooming contest. Others exhibited their ability to speak and conduct a demonstration by participating in the public speaking, project talk and demonstration contests. Kids of all ages tested their knowledge of horticulture and nutrition by participating in the horticulture identification and consumer foods judging tests.

Members, volunteers and staff were astounded by the talented creations of the 4-H seamstresses. 4-H members who participated in sewing workshops all year round modeled their marvelous garments for all to see during a fashion show.

Clubs came together to participate in a school song and yell competition. Winners were awarded with a spirit stick, which will be passed down from year to year to the most spirited 4-H club in St. Charles Parish!

At the end of the day, members received awards and recognition for a job well done! We would like to congratulate all 4-Hers who participated in activities throughout the year, and we encourage everyone to embody the 4-H slogan, “Learn by doing.”

The LSU AgCenter and St. Charles 4-H program would also like to thank all the volunteers who helped throughout the year. The opportunities are ENDLESS in 4-H, so we encourage everyone, students and potential volunteers, to become involved TODAY!
