2nd annual youth rally will be held Saturday in parish

The second annual “Acquire, Aspire and Achieve” youth rally for children throughout St. Charles Parish will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Food will be provided at no charge.

The event will be sponsored by the St. Charles Department of Community Services, the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Alpha Daughters of Zion and St. Charles Parish Public Schools.

The rally will deal with subjects including the dangers of substance abuse, bullying, social media and issues specific to growing up both female and male.

“The purpose is to provide support to our youth and promote discussion about what pitfalls someone might stumble into when growing up,” said St. Charles Parish Director of Community Service Joan Diaz. “We talk about ways to avoid those dangers and turn away from negative peer pressure.”

There will be exhibits and games at the rally.

Judge Timothy Marcel will be a keynote speaker at the event.

Diaz said the rally directors expect a similar turnout to last year, when roughly 300 children attended.

“It will be a fun, upbeat event that promotes the idea of children being the best they can be in life,” Diaz said.

For more information, call Diaz at 985-764-7944 or Sgt. Roanne Sampson at (985) 783-6237.
