2010 parish Queens named at pageant

The 52nd Annual St. Charles Parish Festival Pageant was held on Sunday, August 8 at Destrehan High School.

The theme of the pageant was “Sweet Dreams.”  The contestants did an opening number, followed by a sportswear presentation of their interpretation of pajamas and their sweet dream.

Chelsey Hymel was crowned Miss Queen and Lynleigh Landry was crowned the 15th annual Teen Queen.

Hymel, 19, is the daughter of John and Shellie Hymel of Montz and was also the winner of the fashion, photogenic and people’s choice award.  She is a student at Southeastern University in Hammond, where she is pursuing a degree in nutrition and physical therapy.  She is a 2009 graduate of St. Charles Catholic High School and a TOPS recipient.  She was named an All American All Star Cheerleader, a Universal Cheer Association All Star cheerleader, a member of the New Orleans Ballet Association and a Bronze service award recipient.  She is presently employed at Aimee’s Dance Academy as a dance instructor. She will compete for the title of Queen Sugar in September in New Iberia and the title of LAFF Queen of Queens in February of 2011.

Other winners in the Miss Division are Kayla Becnel, first runner-up; Victoria Pellerin, second runner-up; Jenna Mire, third runner-up; and Andre Romero, fourth runner-up.

Landry, 14, is the daughter of Michael and Doreen Landry of Norco and was also the winner of the photogenic and people’s choice awards.  She is a freshman at St. Charles Catholic High School and a member of the Sparks Team.  After graduation, Landry plans on pursuing a degree in the medical field at Louisiana State University.  She is a 2009 graduate of Sacred Heart of Jesus in Norco, where she was Student Council Vice President and member of the Beta Club, volleyball and basketball teams.  She also placed first in the banner competition for Beta Club at district day and first place in the social studies fair.  She  is a member of the CYO at Sacred Heart Church.  Landry will accompany Hymel at the Sugar Cane Festival and the LAFF Queen of Queens pageant.

Other winners in the teen division are Katie Pitts, first runner-up, Sweetness and Sportswear; and Kristen Latour, second runner-up and fashion.

Hymel and Landry will receive scholarships and travel throughout Louisiana promoting St. Charles Parish.
