Twenty students from St. Charles Borromeo Fountain of Youth traveled to Steubenville, Ohio for the Steubenville High School Youth Conference on the campus of Franciscan University on June 12 through 14. Franciscan University’s Youth Outreach Office offers the opportunity for high school students and chaperones to participate in one of 15 youth conferences in eight different states around the country.
“The past 10 years, SCB Fountain of Youth members have been participating close to home at Steubenville South in Alexandria and Steuby on the Bayou in Houma,” said youth minister Janeen Rodrigue, “But this summer we had the opportunity to travel to Steubenville and participate in the hometown where Steubenville originated thirty years ago.”
Franciscan University of Steubenville is a vibrant Catholic college built upon Jesus Christ – the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Rooted in Franciscan tradition, they accept the call given to St. Francis to, “Go and rebuild My Church.”
“This is done not only through their campus life, but also through their Youth Outreach Office, which serves the wider Church.,” added Rodrigue. “Their focus is on bringing high school students into a life changing relationship with God and serving those who serve them.
“They understand that teens are constantly confronted with lies and choices that lead them away from Christ and the Church.”
Rodrigue believes that the conferences not only provide teens the opportunity to encounter Jesus Christ, but challenge them to live for him.
“Through the power of the Sacraments, inspiring talks, dynamic music, and expressive praise, teens are given an awesome weekend that can literally change the course of their lives,” she said.
