United Way needs help reaching campaign goal

Dear Editor,
I would like to begin by thanking all those in St. Charles Parish and the surrounding parishes who contributed to the United Way St. Charles 2010-2011 Campaign.

Thus far, we have raised $2,149,378 and that’s because of each and every one of you that we were able to accomplish this incredible effort.

Our fundraising goal for this campaign is $2.4 million and we are currently at 90 percent. With that being said, we still have time to reach our goal. On behalf of the United Way Staff, Board of Directors and the Campaign and Marketing Committee, I would like to ask those of you who have not given to this year’s campaign, to consider giving today.

We realize the economic climate has been difficult and that’s why there is an even greater need in our local community. United Way provides funding to over 30 agencies and programs in St. Charles Parish to address this need. Over 40,000 people were served by United Way St. Charles last year alone.

Funds donated to United Way helped to support education, income and health programs throughout St. Charles Parish. Whether it was reaching out to abused and neglected children, providing backpacks of food to children to take home from school, caring for the elderly or providing counseling services to families in need, United Way was there to help. Donate now and help us to continue our vital work given the increased need in our community.

Obviously, none of us predict the future. Therefore, we will never know when United Way’s services will be needed for ourselves or someone in our families. One day we may become financially unstable, jobless, sick, disabled or in need of special care.

Please remember that when we reach out a hand to one, we influence the condition of all. We all win when a child has a head start on quality education that leads to success in future jobs, when individuals have enough income to support a family through retirement, and when we all enjoy good health.

Again, thanks to all of you who contributed to this year’s campaign monetarily or through volunteerism. Your help has made an important difference in the lives of others. I appreciate your attention to this important cause.

Regards,
Taryn Miller
