I assume that the state of Louisiana and St. Charles Parish instituted the sales tax holidays to provide an opportunity for the residents of the state and parish to purchase items and save the normal taxes paid on said purchases, thereby stimulating the economy and providing savings to the residents. This holiday takes place every year on the first Friday and Saturday of August. All items for personal use should be sales tax free with the exceptions of licensed vehicles, food prepared at a restaurant and some services and rentals. […]

As you may know there are several budget bills attempting to move across the Congressional floor that adversely affects every member of the National Guard and Reserve. While it may be difficult to follow all of the proposed budget changes, there are two in particular that we should definitely oppose.

On Monday, July 23, the St. Charles Parish Council passed ordinance 12-7-9 which required parish workers not to disclose the names of our good citizens who report violations to the parish.

As we watch the cost of living in St. Charles parish rise again, it should add to the list of questions we have about how our elected officials (local, state and federal) spend our tax dollars.

Once again, in less than a year, the Administrator and operators of our St. Charles Parish Hospital are asking the good folks of St. Charles Parish to give them more money to expand the hospital. Nothing has changed, except for their plan on how they will access your taxes.
