
St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church expects to host between 5,000 and 8,000 people in Destrehan from Friday, May 2 through Sunday, May 4 for its 43rd annual Little Red Church Food & Fun Festival.
Ronald Rodrigue, administrative assistant at St. Charles Borromeo, said residents should know there is no fee to enter the festival.
“There will be a safe environment protected by our St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, amazing prizes and great music,” Rodrique said.
He said he is looking forward to the fellowship in the faith community.
“I’m certain that [the festival] has been successful for the last 42 years because it is run by hundreds of faith-filled volunteers who make it one big annual family event,” Rodrique said.On Saturday, Alter Ego will kick off the band performances on Friday with their set that begins at 6:40 p.m. Bam Bam will play from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., followed by Nola Rock Show from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Ryan Foret will play on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and Rogue Krewe will close the festival with a three-hour set beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The festival will feature amusement park rides by Mississippi Delta Show. Ride bracelets for the entire fair are $65 in advance and $75 once the fair begins. Individual ride tickets will also be sold.
Along with rides, the festival will feature carnival games such as a shooting gallery, baseball throw, Ring-A-Drink, dart throw, basket of blessings, mini basketball and corn hole. A variety of food will be available, including crawfish and meat pies, nachos, boudin egg rolls, jambalaya and red beans, hamburgers, roasted corn, chicken nuggets, fried fish and funnel cakes.
The festival gates will be open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, May 2 and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 3. On Sunday, May 5, the festival will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
