One dead, others wounded in Bayou Des Allemands boat collision

One local woman is dead and six others are wounded after a boat collision that took place over the holiday weekend.

Adam Einck, media contact with the law enforcement division of Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, said there was a collision between a 20-foot aluminum vessel and a 21-foot fiberglass vessel at approximately 9:29 p.m. on July 4.

“The seven people involved were all brought to local hospitals and treated for injuries,” Einck said. “A female passenger in the 21-foot vessel, Audrey Higgins, 36, of Luling, passed away on July 7 in the hospital from her injuries around 5 p.m.”

Both boat operators had blood drawn for toxicology reports, Einck said, but those results are not yet known.

“The investigation is still ongoing,” he said. “It’s too soon in the investigation to say exactly what the main causes of the incident were at this point.”
