Destrehan Plantation hosts annual holiday celebration

Hundreds of adults and children flocked to Destrehan Plantation this past weekend for the 2021 Candy Cane Celebration.

This year the plantation hosted the event on two days, which meant that even more families could partake in the holiday fun.

Participants were able to enjoy an afternoon on the plantation grounds and in the Mule Barn while making holiday crafts, playing games, visiting with Santa under the old oak tree, listening to storytelling by Mrs. Claus in the outdoor kitchen and going on a candy cane hunt.

Stephanie Hebert of Destrehan – along with her three children Matthew, Anna and Andrew – attended the event for the first time this year.

“The Candy Cane Celebration was a cute event for the whole family,” she said. “My kids enjoyed the crafts, meeting Santa and Mrs. Claus, playing games, and drinking hot chocolate. They even got to do a candy cane hunt.”

All proceeds from the holiday event benefitted the restoration and preservation of Destrehan Plantation and its dependency buildings.
