2021 Run/Walk series kicks off Saturday

The first event in the series will take place Saturday.

The Louisiana’s River Parishes Tourist Commission’s 2021 Run/Walk Series will kick off Saturday with the Gator Run/Walk at West Bridge Park in Luling.

The series, which will consist of four races, is the collaborative effort of Buddy Boe, executive director of LARPTC, and Chuck George, race director and president of New Orleans Running Systems.

Boe said this is the first time the LARPTC is sponsoring a race series.

“We wanted to attract a new set of visitors to the region and highlight the outdoors of Louisiana’s River Parishes,” Boe said. “We hope this gives our residents another set of experiences throughout the region to enjoy where they live.”

The series schedule includes Saturday’s Gator 5k and Half Mile Run/Walk in Luling and the Gramercy Veterans Memorial Bridge 5k in Edgard on Aug. 28. Sept. 25’s Riverside Oaks 5K in Convent and Nov. 20’s Old Highway 51 Half-Marathon, 10 Mile and 5K in Manchac complete the series.

Participants who complete all four of the series’ events will earn a custom finisher medallion.

The kick-off event this weekend features a 5k run and a half mile walk option on the River Levee jogging trail. Organizers said a percentage of the event’s proceeds will benefit Boy Scout Troop No. 107.

There is a $35 charge for registration on race day.
