Raffle for playhouse will help children across River Parishes

For the second year, Child Advocacy Services (CAS) is raffling off a playhouse for children in an effort to raise money. The design for the 2010 playhouse was revealed recently.

Tickets for the playhouse raffle will be available on September 15.  CAS will raffle one playhouse in St. Charles Parish and two others in Tangipahoa and Ascension parishes during a live raffle in November.

So far, builders Ronnie Perrin, Glen Alack, Darrell Amar and Malcolm Fritzhugh have stepped up and committed to donate their time and labor to build two of the three designer playhouses.  Gabriel Building Supply will be one of the sponsors for materials to start the build.  CAS is seeking building materials and a third builder to complete the building of the playhouses.

CAS is seeking support from the community to help the abused and neglected children in the 10 parishes they serve.  Last year, there were 6,929 cases of abuse and neglect reported in Louisiana.  Child Advocacy Services was able to appoint 185 volunteers to represent 452 children through their CASA program. Of those children, 141 were placed in safe and permanent homes.

The purpose of these playhouses is to build awareness of child abuse and neglect, and to raise funds necessary to continue the CAS mission of giving voice, healing and security to children.

“I am honored to be a part of this project,” said Alexis Ducorbier, Cottages for CASA committee chairman. “After such a successful 2009 playhouse raffle, we are looking forward to a superior year at a time when abused and neglected children need services more than ever.”

Tickets are $10 and distribution outlets will be posted on the CAS Web site at www.childadv.net on September 15.  Each ticket holder will have three chances to win.
