How sweet the sound

Big crowd flocks to 12th Gospel Festival in Boutte

Boutte’s Mount Zion Baptist Church staged its 12th Annual Gospel Festival and more than 1,000 people showed up for the choirs, the food, the games – and the fun. Vendors from as far away as Baton Rouge displayed goods to sell to residents and church goers.

“We’ve had the festival for past 12 years and we’ve had great success,” Rev. Robert Pardo, Sr. told the Herald-Guide.

“Choirs come out and sing praises to God and the audience enjoys the festivities,” he continued.

Pardo said all proceeds will go to the church’s general fund.

“We look forward to having the event again next year,” he said.

“We had well over 1,000 people attend counting both Saturday and Sunday.”

Bro. Ronald Diggs, church organist made sure choirs from all across the river parishes got a chance to perform.

“We had several choirs participate this year from St. James and St. John Parish,” Diggs said.

“The crowds really enjoyed the musical performances,” he continued.

Participating choirs included: Hymns of Joy, LaPlace, God’s Sons, Hammond, Chatman Family, and Faith, Praise and Deliverance Temple, New Sarpy, Belle Baptist Church Choir, First Baptist Church Choir, Bethlehem Baptist Church Choir, and many more performers.

Residents from across the parish came out to attend the event, even parish president candidate and Councilman Clayton “Snookie” Faucheux came out to listen to the soulful sounds of the gospel groups and enjoy good food and good company.
