Get those bingo dabbers ready

The Hahnville Dugout Club will sponsor a Special Bingo this Sunday night, April 30 at 7 p.m. at the St. Charles Room Bingo Hall located at 13145 Hwy. 90 in Boutte. A full night of bingo is only $15 with a chance to win up to $14,000. Doors open at 6 p.m. The Dugout Club will distribute all the proceeds from this bingo to the Hahnville High School Band’s Washington, D.C. trip fund.

Put on your dancin’ shoes
St. Gertrude Catholic Church will hold a dance on Saturday, April 29 from 8 a.m. to 12 midnight at the Father Mac Community Center in Des Allemands. Music will be by Will Foret. BYOL. Tickets are $10 per couple.

It’s an extravaganza at Holy Family
Holy Family Catholic Church will hold their main fundraising event “Extravaganza” on Saturday, April 29 at 6 p.m. at the Holy Family Center on Lakewood Drive in Luling. The event will include food, drinks, prizes and entertainment. The Grand Prize is $10,000. Tickets are still available. A $100 donation admits 2 adults. Heritage Fest celebrates 200 years
Donaldsonville’s 200-year celebration includes the Bicentennial Heritage Fest on the weekend of April 29 and 30. The event will include music, food, games, live entertainment, a children’s village, craft fair, antique car show, a scavenger hunt, heritage activities and live reenactments. This cultural festival celebrates the various nationalities that have settled the Donaldsonville area.
Craft vendors of every variety are welcome to participate. Craft booths are $50 for both festival dates, and applications are available at Donaldsonville’s City Hall, located at 609 Railroad Ave. For more information, contact (225) 473-4247, ext. 13.

The Circus is coming to town
Smith Middle School will hold a “Circus of the Kids” on May 11 and 12 at 7 p.m., and on Saturday, May 13 at 2 and 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $4 per child and $5 per adult. Tickets at the door are $5 per child and $6 per adult. Present and adult ticket at the door and receive one child’s ticket free. Put your nature photos to the test
The River Road Garden Club in conjunction with the River Region Master Gardner’s Organization will sponsor and conduct a Horticulture Photo Contest for youth and adult residents of St. Charles Parish. The contest will be held on May 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the County Agent’s Office parking lot located on Paul Maillard Rd. Only one photo per contestant may be entered and the photo must be related to horticulture or a gardening activity. Judging will begin at 11 a.m. with winners announced at 1 p.m. 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners will be awarded for both youth and adult categories. All photos will be returned to contestants.

Need help finding a local job?
The River Region Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with LA Technical/River Parishes Community College Graduates invites parents and students to the presentation titled “Gaining Employment in the River Region”. The presentation will air actual success stories and video testimonials. Keynote speaker will be Jim Henderson, Senior Vice President of La. Community and Technical College System. Panel discussions will include “What it takes to get a job in my company?” The event is scheduled for May 2 at 4 p.m. at the St. John Parish Library. There will be door prizes and food. Melodies benefit Katrina victims
Mark your calendars for this upcoming performance by the Community Choir of the River Parishes. A inspirational concert will be held May 12 at the First Baptist Church in Luling on Paul Malliard Rd. at 7:00 p.m. The concert will focus on those who have been displaced by Hurricane Katrina to our area. All monies donated at the concert events will be channeled through the United Way.

An evening of music, wine and a picnic
Enjoy wonderful music under the oaks at the historic San Fransisco Plantation, on Saturday, April 29. The festive occasion will also mark the 150th anniversary of the plantation’s construction. The plantation is located on River Road, between Garyville and Reserve in St. John Parish. The Louisiana Philharmonic will present a two-hour concert with 65-70 musicians, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a program of Pops music to everyone’s tastes. Tickets are $10 per person.
