On the banks of the Mississippi River in Vacherie is the setting for the River Parishes 1st Annual Car and Bike Show, featuring the music of Local Option 2, food, crafts, and a little piece of history…Oak Alley Plantation. The event is set for April 22 at 9 a.m.– 4 p.m. (Rain date is May 13). Awards will include Top Ten, Best of Show, Best Interior, and Best Paint plus more. St. Charles Parish Sports day coming soon
St. Charles Parish Department of Parks and Recreation will hold The St. Charles Parish Sports Day. Titled ”Gumbo”, the event is a track and field competition and also Bocce Ball for students ages 5-22 with physical or visual disabilities. The Sports Day will provide instruction in preparing for GUMBO track & field and Bocce events in a non-threatening, non-competitive enviroment. The event is scheduled for April 22 at 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Destrehan High School. Garland Robinette speaks at Women’s Club
The St. Charles Women’s Club’s April program will be both entertaining and informative as the group hears from Garland Robinette of WWL Radio on “Bringing Back New Orleans.” Robinette is a Luling native who will share some ideas from his “Think Tank.” Plan to attend this meeting on Thursday, April 20 at the First Union Presbyterian Church on Lakewood Dr. beginning at 9 a.m. with coffee and conversation. The Club will also be celebrating their 40th Anniversary at the meeting. Memorabilia from the past will be on display.
Calling all bookworms
The Friends of St. Charles Library will be holding a book sale on May 5 and 6. However, at this time the group is in need of books of all kinds. If you have books you would like to donate, please consider giving them to the book sale. What really works?
Dr. Martha Hamilton will conduct a presentation on “Behavior Shaping Techniques: What really works” on April 22 at 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church located at 522 Green Street in Thibodaux. Dr. Hamilton is a clinical psychologist who has worked with people with developmental disabilities for over 17 years. She is currently the Clinical Director of the Region III Community Support Team. Diggin’ for prize eggs
Luling United Methodist Church, on Paul Mallard Rd. next to the hospital, will host an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 15 at 10 a.m. All children ages 1-8 are invited to join in the fun. Time to celebrate G.E.D achievements
Plans are underway for the 2005 – 2006 Adult Education Graduation to be held on May 23 at Hahnville High School. Adults who have successfully passed the GED during the 2005 – 2006 school year are invited to participate in the upcoming ceremony.
