Even in a down economy, business startups in St. Charles Parish have risen 19 percent since 2009, according to a new report produced by the St. Charles Parish Public Information Office.
Facts about the local economy, infrastructure projects and maintenance and financial reporting are the main focus of the 2010 Special Report, which provides a full update on government activities over the past year.
The 24-page booklet will also feature a special pull-out guide to local government, outlining the roles, powers and duties of each branch and offering a primer on the parish charter, which in 1978 became the parish’s governmental guiding document.
It will be mailed to all households and businesses in July.
“As in past years, we continue to let our eight administrative goals provide our compass,” Parish President V.J. St. Pierre said. “But this particular edition is very much a progress report, as we’re now seeing many projects come to fruition that were only ideas a few short years ago.”
The book features facts and figures on every parish department, including Parks and Recreation, Public Works and Planning and Zoning. And as in previous editions, it will feature photographs of memorable parish events over the past year, including the grand opening of Wetland Watchers Park, the delivery of the George Prince Ferry bell to the East Regional Library in Destrehan and the groundbreaking and completion of the new DMV office in Hahnville.
The report and the full text of all annual reports submitted by parish departments will be available online once printing is complete at www.stcharlesparish-la.gov.
The special report is the third in an annual series began in 2008.
