“Show’em the wave, Tom!” a friend yelled to Nolan “Tom Poose” Boudreaux, king of this year’s Krewe of Lul as the St. Charles Parish Council expressed appreciation for the area’s Mardi Gras celebrations and observances.
The proclamations acknowledge the importance of Mardi Gras, as well as recognized the royalty and supporters of the Krewes of Lul and Des Allemands parades along with the Krewe of Montz’s ATV parade, Krewe of G-Old Timers dance and First Baptist Church of Luling’s Uth Mardi Gras Fest.
Boudreaux’s wave also represents the kind of good-natured fun that makes today’s Mardi Gras a true community builder. This year’s royalty – Krewe of Lul King and Queen Nolan Boudreaux and his wife, Carmen, along with grand marshals Martha and Betty Champagne, and Krewe of Des Allemands King and Queen Nolan “Snookie” Frickey and his wife, Genevieve, along with their grand marshals Louella Deroche and Rita Schaubhut, let the good times roll.
They all agreed the parades represent way more than just tossing trinkets or perfecting their wave to the adoring crowds who line the parade routes every year, as well as support local businesses. What makes this all the better is how this celebration strengthens community.
You’ve seen it, right?
There are no strangers at this party.
Even the thousands of people drawn to Mardi Gras who come and go have put our party permanently on their calendar. We’re friendly and that’s a commodity that should never be undervalued because this kind of fellowship obviously means something to our visitors who want to share good times with friends.
The local parade royalty understood it.
They talked about how the parades bring people together, not only in the area but from afar. It also was important to them that people have some fun in these stressful times and I can’t think of anyone who couldn’t use a little more fun in life.
Everyone dons the colors of royalty – green, gold and purple – and hangs out with friends or soon-to-be friends.
This celebration is also a gift from the people.
Everyone is welcome to this party and everyone is glad to have you because this isn’t just a party – it’s fellowship. We break bread with king cakes and share the revelry with the world.
