The fallen angel, Lucifer, is very alive and well in our world, and deceiving many. He was this way from the beginning with Eve. He lied to her and told her it was okay to disobey God (in a very subtle way where she had a good reason for disobeying him)… that she’d be better off for it. And, look where it got all of us.
Well, his deceptions continue. How are we/our children being formed in our lives today? I was reminiscing back on some of the movies and TV shows that I grew up with, and I thought, “wow, I just took it as truth to live by.” And, today, the spirit of disobedience to God’s laws is even more pronounced, but so many do not realize it because the change has been so gradual; like the frog put in warm water where the temperature is gradually increased and it boils to death, not jumping out because the change was so subtle.
How many of us have become like that frog, and are allowing our children to be formed in the same way?
“It is not human flesh we are fighting against, but principalities and powers of darkness” (Eph 6). We choose to serve God in our lives by choosing to obey His laws and truths. But Satan tries everything to distort truth and goodness in our hearts and minds. He most often comes as “an angel of light,” as spoken of in Scripture. He has already lost the victory but God allows him to be among us so we can have free will to choose; just as God allowed him to be around Adam and Eve, and they were seduced by the evil one.
The minute they lost sight of obeying God and tried to decide for themselves what was right, they fell into a distorted mindset. Why? Because Satan is smarter than us (he was the highest angel in Heaven before the fall). And, the majority of people in our society are deceived by him today.
Only when we have the mind of Christ can we recognize his seductions. “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (Jn 14:6).
The only way we in our Country can turn around is if we each open our hearts to God and His laws and truths. Satan has done a good job in distorting who God really is. He finds every kind of way to distract us from the truth of who we are as God’s creatures, so loved by Him. He does everything he can to convince us that things of this world will satisfy that deep, God-sized ache that we all have in the core of who we are. This is why there is so much depression, despair, negativity, hatred, violence, fear, anxiety, around us… Because so many are closed off from the truth, the spout of life-giving waters. “If you knew the gift of God…you would have asked him and he would have given you living water” (Jn 4:9,10), Jesus tells us through the woman at the well. And, God is still ready and waiting to give us these “living waters” of His Holy Spirit of love and truth.
But we all have a choice.
