Sheriff arrests burglary suspect in St. Rose, another on the loose

Said suspects might be connected to last week’s armed burglary in Destrehan

Police said they arrested a man during a botched robbery in St. Rose Thursday evening, Dec. 11, who may have also been connected to an armed robbery in Destrehan the week prior.

The Sheriff’s Office said one other suspect fled the scene.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a man attempted to enter a residence on the 300 block of Oak Street in St. Rose, but was thwarted by furniture that was blocking the door.

Rodric J. Shorts, 27, of New Sarpy was arrested for driving the getaway vehicle, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office said it believes these suspects could be connected to an armed robbery that occurred last Thursday at the 100 block of Villere Drive in Destrehan. At that time, an armed man forced his way into the home and robbed a couple of their belongings before attempting to take the woman with him. The woman pushed the man out the door and locked it behind him.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information on these crimes to contact them at either (985) 783-1135 or (985) 783-6807. Callers can also contact Crime Stoppers at (877) 903-7867.
