Mother, boyfriend previously arrested for possession of drug
St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s deputies were called to a private school after a second-grader showed his teacher a white substance that was later identified as methamphetamine on Thursday (Feb. 2).
During the investigation, it was learned the second-grader was removing a tissue from a pocket pack of tissues in the child’s schoolbag.
While doing so, the child found a bag containing a small amount of white substance inside the tissue pack. The juvenile presented the unknown substance to the teacher who immediately contacted the Sheriff’s Office.
Narcotic detectives were able to discover the substance inside the baggie was methamphetamine. It is believed that the juvenile may have taken the tissue pack from home, weeks prior to the incident, not realizing what contents were inside.
In November of 2016, the Sheriff’s Office had begun investigating Kevin Richardson, 24, the live-in boyfriend of the child’s mother, Christina Cherry, 25, both of St. Rose, in relation to narcotic related criminal activity.
Evidence was compiled for narcotic detectives to obtain and execute a search warrant on Richardson’s residence at 147 Johnson St.
A search of the residence led to the discovery of individually packaged amounts of methamphetamine, as well as narcotic paraphernalia.
Cherry was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, obstruction of justice and two counts of Illegal Use of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in the presence of juveniles.
Cherry attempted to dispose of some narcotics upon detectives’ arrival at the residence, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
On Feb. 2, Richardson was arrested for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of juveniles.
