Former St. Charles Parish teacher accused of running meth lab out of home

A former R.K. Smith Middle School teacher and her husband were arrested Wednesday on the accusation of establishing a meth lab at their Luling home.

According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Kristy Ruth Allen, 37, and Ryan Christopher Allen, 42, both of 214 Ellington Street, were arrested and charged with two counts of creating/operating a clandestine laboratory, possession of methamphetamine, possession with the intent to use drug paraphernalia, illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in presence of someone under 17 and use of a firearm in presence of controlled dangerous substances.

Kristy Allen was listed on the R.K. Smith school website as entering her second year at the school as a reading and writing teacher and her 10th year as a teacher overall.

Allen is no longer employed with the school system, according to St. Charles Parish Public Schools Spokeswoman Stevie Crovetto.

According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, police investigators learned in early December that the couple was allegedly manufacturing methamphetamine at their residence. Police secured a warrant to search the home and found evidence consistent with the making of the drug.

Police also learned that the couple’s seven-year-old child resided at the residence with them.

Both Ryan and Kristy Allen are being held at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center on a $500,000 bond.
