Walter Dixon was reported killed in action and his wife had moved on. She remarried and had a child with another man. At that time, Dixon did not have much to say. He just wanted to find peace. “I can’t blame her,” he said. “When she found out I was alive, the only obvious thing to do was to divorce one of us.”
Russ Dixon said he is proud of his dad, who went on to serve in Vietnam. “I tell a lot of people about your seven Purple Hearts and all that, and I brag about it just about every day,” he told his father.
The wisest people on earth are those who have a hard time recalling their worries and an easy time remembering their blessings. Thomas Edison once said, “If we did all of the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astonish ourselves.” The person who sincerely wants to do something finds a way; all the others find an excuse for why they cannot do something.
St. Paul talked about his own adversities in life. In Romans he says, “Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom. 8:33-39)
We have to make a choice in everything we do. The choices we make, make us. If we keep our feet planted on solid ground and if we never give up, we will find true peace and happiness.
