Anthony DiGerolamo has been named St. Charles Parish Hospital’s new CEO, replacing Federico “Fred” Martinez who announced he was resigning because of health issues.
DiGerolamo joined hospital management effective Sept. 14, bringing more than 15 years of healthcare experience to the position.
“It’s a great opportunity,” said DiGerolamo, a resident of Harvey. “I come from a community hospital. This was a great opportunity to work in another community hospital and especially one within the Ochsner Health System.”
Martinez’s last day with the hospital is Sept. 30.
“We welcome Anthony and look forward to working with him and his team to continue providing the highest quality care to our patients,” said John Landry III, chair of the St. Charles Parish Hospital Board. “His strong healthcare experience and his local affiliation will be a great asset to the community.”
DiGerolamo was chosen after conducting a nationwide search.Landry said the board unanimously agreed he “was the best candidate to serve as CEO for our hospital.”
Most recently, DiGerolamo served as senior vice president – chief nursing officer at West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero since January of 2014. He served as vice president, assistant chief and senior healthcare lead roles, including assistant administrator.
DiGerolamo said he has experience with the clinical, operational and administrative aspects of the healthcare delivery system.
“The community should be very confident and happy with the decision to be managed by the Ochsner Health System,” DiGerolamo said. “It provides the resources to drive patient care in the community setting and that speaks volumes.”
He holds a master of science in nursing – healthcare systems management from Loyola University and a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing from Our Lady of Holy Cross College.
DiGerolamo also is a recent graduate of Leadership Jefferson and has been recognized as a Healthcare Hero, Great 100 Nurse and nominated as Administrator of the Year.
In May, Martinez announced he would retire later this year, but agreed to stay on until the new CEO was hired to promote a seamless transition.
Martinez ushered in the hospital’s partnership with Ochsner Health System, which headed the search and hiring of DiGerolamo.
At the time of Martinez’s announcement, Michael Hulefeld, executive vice president and CEO of Ochsner Health System, said the hiring process would involve the hospital’s district board and senior leaders, including Hulefeld. The search was conducted internally and externally.
